I am a designer of high end tableware, furniture and lighting. My products have their own unmistakeable identity and can be considered a potential brand.

I have launched a collection of tableware which I manufacture myself. This collection has been exhibited three times at Maison et Objet in Paris and regularly at the Ornaris Giftware show in Switzerland. As a result of the last three participations, I now supply more than forty giftware shops around the country.

The demand for my designs, is in danger of becoming greater than my capacity to produce.
I am therefore seeking an investor with good knowledge of this market, who is willing to invest the necessary capital and if possible, his or her marketing skills to take the business to the next level.

An investment of GBP 350,000 would be used for marketing, to find manufacturing solutions and to finance regular international trade shows over a five year period.

Introduction

Nik & Maddalena Steven (MADNIK) are designers of tableware, furniture, lighting and basically everything to do with home decoration. We work in cast metal (aluminium, bronze, pewter) and in wood. Many of our creations exist as prototypes which we endeavour to get onto the market, either by manufacturing ourselves or else licensing to other manufacturers.

Our breakthrough came a year ago when Nik designed a collection of tableware which we manufacture in our own workshop in Pewter. This metal boomed in the 1970's in the form of tankards and monstrous souvenir's, which were then to be forgotten for the next 30 years. I have given new life to pewter by creating elegant new designs and as a result, the metal appears to be enjoying a re-birth.

The Market

After just three trade shows in Zürich and Bern, the demand for our tableware collection has tripled and there are no signs of things slowing down. We now supply over 40 boutiques and interior design stores all over Switzerland. The demand is becoming greater than our capacity to produce, which is why we are in search of capital.

From first hand experience, (after exhibiting at Maison et Objet in Paris) we are confident that the same market would open up for us in France, Germany, Austria and the United States. This is something we aim to exploit.

Our plan is either to out source the manufacturing to Malaysia (which has a tradition of pewter) or else set up a factory in Portugal. Both possibilities would ensure lower production costs.

Our pewter ware is just part of a bigger picture. With each trade show, interest in our furniture and lighting is simultaneously on the increase and it is just a matter of time before we believe things will get seriously exciting.

Financial requirements

The investment will be used to build on what we have already started and will cover the costs for regular trade fair presence and/or direct marketing and the manufacturing of our products.
We see this investment as an equity sale for an agreed percentage .

We (MADNIK) see ourselves as creative partners. Our strength lies in designing new products and ensuring the corporate identity stays on track. We do not see ourselves as key figures involved in strategic decision making and running of the company. For that part, we are currently seeking a business partner.
