The Council is good. But ...
I'm looking for funds to maximize work of artist's. He does not care who it is: an investor or sponsor, he does not think about profits, he wants to realize though, would be a small part of their art ideas. How do you explain the investor that the artist has great potential in creating new trends in art?
How to show his ability to work quickly and efficiently?
How do you explain there are many artists, but generators of idea - units?
Filling in standard forms on the sites of Angels puts me in a dead end....

Just few examples of real world in the last 6 mths
-went to a business angel presentation, two people interested, spent 2 mths working on development and then discovered they were banned from any UK company directorship
-went to a business angel presentation, one person interested, still in discussions after 4 mths
-contacted directly by a business angel, still in discussions after 4 mths
Don't forget some people are out there just to get a good conversation starter, or to have something to do whit their time, or just waste others time. Really hard to understand why after more than 20hrs of discussion, of business plan, cash flow and strategy development, and after agreement in principle on the amount of investment and equity they are still thinking/delaying to make the final commitment. At least be a man of honour and speak up your mind!

I quite agree with Brett Davis. The time taken for a starter to get such angels if you ever got any seems like eternity. But as others have said, persistence is the answer.

All good advice! The big problem in the UK is when you have a invention to open up a large market (energy bill reduction and carbon emission reduction) investors seem not to get the Win Win that being offered.

Very good advice, nice 1

Also there are government scheme to help start up new business but they don't help, too many question and red tape.

I'm after less for a investor and more for some one who very connected and who could open doors.

Excellent, sound commentary.

I feel that Dragon's Den has done a lot to damage the expectation of VC/Angel funding - we are now literally bombarded with random requests for investment in 'unique web ideas'. We don't even offer investment!

Perhaps I would slightly amend your closing statement to 'be realistic, be persistent'.

Good advice.

The only thing I would add is that don't under estimate the amount of time it takes to close a round of investment. I would suggest that if your business is live and you are starting from scratch searching for your first round of investment, make sure you have enough cash to last 6 months.
